MEDIA THAT MATTERS: Significant Movies and Books that Challenge and Inspire—or that shape the culture we live in.

A monthly media and conversation evening to explore movies and books that either challenge and inspire, or that are shaping our culture. Some of the movies we’ve screened are Solaris, Koyannisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, The Seventh Seal, The Big Kahuna, Flatliners, The Fisher King, A.I., The Body, What the (Bleep) Do We Know?, The Secret, Instinct, Life as a House, Shake Hands with the Devil, The Man Who Sued God, Shadowlands, Religulous, Charlie Wilson’s War, and Capitalism: A Love Story.

Robinson, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, The Spiral Staircase by Karen Armstrong, Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light by Mother Teresa and Brian Kolodiejchuk, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, With or Without God by Gretta Vosper, The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama, The Shack by William Paul Young, A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson, Orphans of Winter by Rob Ritchie, and The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.

After offering Media That Matters in Toronto for 2 years, for 3 years we have been offering it in Wiarton, Ontario as part of ‘A Night Out,’ the Bluewater District School Board community education program. If enough people are interested, we could offer it again in Toronto.
