Progressive Retreats

Bruce Peninsula Progressive Retreats

2-day retreats on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario for people interested in social responsibility, progressive spirituality, and life-enhancing values. These are offered 2 or 3 times a year (early summer, fall and sometimes in the winter), at Poppy’s Place and Novotny’s cottage, 2 cottages on Berford Lake north of Wiarton, Ontario. Retreats run from 1 pm Saturday until 5 pm Sunday.

Besides swimming, kayaking, volleyball, hiking, cross-country skiing, and relaxing by the fireplace, each retreat includes a movie or documentary with a social or spiritual theme, followed by conversation and interaction. Some of the movies we have screened so far are Wide Awake, Hotel Rwanda, Life as a House, Because of Winn-Dixie, K-Pax, An Unfinished Life, The Da Vinci Code, House of D, An Inconvenient Truth, 13 Conversations About One Thing, Inherit the Wind, Two Weeks, Expelled, A History of God, One Week, Avatar, Rabbit Hole, New Year's Eve, and The Way. At some retreats we have time for ‘Soul Talk,’ where people can share personal or creative insights from their own journeys.
